WE DON’T HAVE MONEY TO COLLECT GARBAGE – MASINDI LEADERS

Following the choking garbage smell at Kirabu kya kasigwa market in Central division Masindi Municipality, leaders have revealed that they don’t have funds to collect it.
Jackson Mbaneraho, the Masindi Municipal Secretary for Finance explains that due to the poor revenue collection, it has hampered service delivery in the area.
”We used the little local revenue we collected to rehabilitate the roads in the division. There is need to pay revenue in time so that all services like garbage collection is done.”
Isaac Bongomin, the LC3 Chairperson Central Division, told our reporter that the garbage recycling plant has mechanical problems which delayed the garbage collection.
The recycling plant crushes the collected garbage into fertilizers. Bongomin asserts that they are working around the clock to repair the garbage recycling plant.
”Our garbage recycling plant at Kikwanana garbage dumping centre has mechanical issues and we are working around the clock to repair it, then we resume garbage collection,” he noted.
Nelson Fredrick Mandela the former Masindi Central Division Chairperson says that there is need to lobby for funds for the division in order to deliver services.
”They should be aware of the challenge the vendors and customers are going through, they should therefore mind lobbying for the division,” he noted.
According to the vendors who spoke to our reporter, the choking garbage has been uncollected for over three months and they are at risk of contracting diseases.
