WE OFFER SAME SERVICES–RUKUNGIRI UNATU CHAIRMAN ON M7’S PROPOSAL TO INCREASE SCI. TEACHERS’ SALARIES
By Ambrose Kweronda
In Rukungiri—
The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) Chairman – Rukungiri district, Julius Gumisiriza, yesterday questioned president Museveni’s recent proposal to increase gross monthly salaries for science teachers to Ush4 million.
Gumisiriza told our reporter that the president’s move to increase salaries for science teachers without considering arts teachers, will create differences between the two parties.
He said all teachers are equal because they offer same services to the learners.
He suggested that the government should increase the salaries of science teachers, then think about arts teachers as soon as possible.
Wisdom Natumanya, a science teacher at Kyamakanda S.S. said that the President’s proposal is a very great idea because it will pave a way for arts teachers to also file for salary increment.
Wisdom added that UNATU should welcome the idea because if they don’t, their goal to see teachers get reasonable salaries will remain only in their wishes.
Currently a graduate science teacher earns gross pay 1.2 million shillings, diploma science teachers earn 900,000 shillings while an Arts graduate teacher is paid 1.1million shilling and the Arts teachers at diploma level get 780,000 UGX gross
