The newly elected head of laity West Ankole diocese; Willis Bashaasha has warned Dr.Elioda Tumwesigye and Dr.Mesharch Katusiime against interfering with decisions made by the diocese because they don’t have authority to speak on behalf of the diocese.
Recently Dr.Elioda Tumwesigye, the minister of innovations and Technology and Prof.Dr. Mesharch Katusiime ;the vice chancellor Ankole Western University said Makerere University will not be allowed to open a branch at Katungu mothers Union centre in West Ankole diocese.
Last week during the synod meeting at Bweranyangi cathedral, Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni revealed that Makerere University had agreed with the diocese to open a study centre in Katungu mothers Union buildings in August this year.
Willis Bashasha says Dr.Elioda and Dr. Katusiime have used wrong forum to address the matter because they can’t oppose decisions made by the synod of West Ankole diocese.
He further says everything is already in place for the study centre to start for August in take.
Minister Elioda Tumwesigye
Dr.Elioda recently said only Ankole Western University can open a faculty at Katungu instead of Makerere University opening a study centre there.
Dr.Katusiime suggests that if Makerere is to operate in Bushenyi it can start postgraduate programmes other than competing with the available universities in the area by offering undergraduate programmes.
Greater Bushenyi has a number of universities including KIU western campus, Valley University of science and technology and Ankole Western University.
“Universities do not compete but share knowledge” Katusiime says in his article published on social media and www.mknewslink.com.
Bashaasha maintains that the church should be left alone to do her work thus Dr.Elioda and Katusiime have no powers to speak for the diocese as it has a public relations officer, bishop and diocesan secretary who are allowed to speak for the institution.
