WOMAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING ONE-MONTH OLD INFANT IN KAZO

Police in Kazo district have arrested a 32-year-old-woman with a stolen infant of one month. The baby was stolen from her parents in Rwemirondo ward Kazo Town Council on 12, Dec.2022 by Immaculate Kebirungi.
Kebirungi was arrested from Kanoni sub county in Kazo district, five days after stealing the baby from her mother, who had gone for prayers at Victory church in Kazo district on the 7th.Dec,2022.
ASP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Police spokesperson says that police trailed the Suspect through the districts of Ibanda, Kiruhura,kitagwenda and Kamwenge after a tipoff from a one Abdul Wahab the husband of the Suspect who told Police that his wife(Kebirungi) had gone to kitagwenda to give birth.
Kasasira adds that the Suspect was later arrested on 18th.Dec,2022 from Kanoni sub county recovering the one-month old baby who was weak at the time due to improper feeding and reunited with the family.
However, the Police spokesperson reveals that in efforts to rescue the baby, Police was able to recover another two-year-old girl from the home of the suspect who is believed to have been stolen and efforts to reunite her with her family are ongoing.
“We condemn the acts of child stealing and all crimes related to children and we shall hold perpetrators to account, redoubling our efforts to ensure that children are protected wherever they are, whether at home, in schools or public spaces, but children and adults are encouraged to speak out when such incidences do occur” Kasasira said in a press statement.
