In Masindi—
A woman in her late 20s is nursing wounds at Kitara medical Centre after falling in a 40 fit pit latrine while allegedly escaping from police who were enforcing curfew in Masindi.
The victim Bridget Atuhuura told www.mknewslink.com that she fell into a pit on Sunday at 7:30 pm in Kijura central cell central division Masindi municipality Masindi district.
“Police came chasing people. When I saw them running, I also took off little knowing that I was going to fall into a pit. Right now I am admitted here at Kitara medical centre and I am feeling a lot of pain though I never got any fracture,” said Atuhuura who is commonly known as Mama Bridget.
She added that she spent an hour in a pit before she was retrieved by the police fire brigade.
“Even currently I am traumatized. I am not feeling myself. I am calling upon police to always be lenient while enforcing the curfew. They should know that there are weak people,” she said.
Mary Kwikiriza a resident of Kijura cell who also witnessed the incident told www.mknewslink.com that Atuhuura fell in a non used pit latrine adding that they wondered to see police enforcing curfew at 7:30 pm yet they’re supposed to start at 9:00 pm.
“Police should follow what the president said. Now see the problems they’re causing us. She narrowly survived death. Is this the way to go?” asked angry Kwikiriza.
Currently Atuhuura is still admitted at Kitara medical centre. However the Doctors indicated that she never got any fracture but sustained minor injuries.
When we reached Allan Hakiza the Albertine Region police spokesperson he described the incident as an accident noting that it was not intended at all.
“It’s very unfortunate but that was not intended by police,” explained Hakiza.
