WOMAN IN RUKIGA MURDERS A 7 DAYS OLD BABY

Police in Rukiga have a female adult Gift Nahurira in custody alleged to have murdered her 7 days old baby girl Trust Owomugisha.
According to the Kigezi Region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate told journalists yesterday 18/03/2023 that it’s alleged that on September,2022, the suspect one Gift Nahurira a resident of Muhanga town council Rukiga district, got married in Kebisoni Rukungiri district, to Turyatunga Ambrose whom they stayed together.
Later on Turyatunga discovered that Gift was pregnant for another man known as Jacob and they agreed to stay together on condition that when she delivers this pregnancy she would go back to their home in Rukiga to look after the baby and after a year she would go and resume the marriage.
Maate said that On 5/3/2023 she gave birth to a baby girl from home and on 8/ 3/2023 Turyatunga provided transport to her to go to her home as earlier agreed.
That on 10/3/2023 she alleged that the kid got sick and did not take her for medication that led to her death in the night of 12/3/2023, but she did not inform any of the people she was staying with in the house.
And that at around midday she carried the kid and threw it in the nearby bush, then on 15/3/2023 she returned to Kebisoni to resume her marriage.
Maate revealed that but on her arrival, Turyatunga took concern to find out where the newly borne baby was.
Gift lied to him that she had left the kid with the father in Muhanga which was not but convincing because the kid was too young which forced him to report to the defense of the area and later to Kebisoni police station in Rukungiri district.
She was then arrested and taken to police for interrogation, and while there she revealed that the kid died and she threw it in the bush just next to their home in Muhanga, Rukiga district.
Preliminary investigations were done at Kebisoni and the suspect was yesterday transferred to Rukiga district as an area of jurisdiction.
Scene was visited, processed and the body was recovered from the bush and postmortem was done.
Inquiries ongoing upon completion will be arraigned before courts of law.
The Police Spokesperson notes that Case of suspected murder were registered at Rukiga police station under reference number CRB 146/2023.
