WOMAN MURDERS 16 YEAR OLD STEPSON IN RUKUNGIRI

Authorities in Rukungiri District are investigating the death of 16-year-old Erias Ahereza, a resident of Nyakagyera village, Burora Parish in Nyarushanje Sub-county.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, it is alleged that on an unknown date, Ahereza’s stepmother, Ninsiima Regisi, assaulted and locked him in a room for a week. On the afternoon of August 19, 2024, a concerned neighbor informed the area LC1 Chairman, Aston Mutabazi, about the situation. Mutabazi intervened and took the boy to Kebisoni Health Centre IV, where he was later referred to Kisiizi Hospital.
Unfortunately, Ahereza was pronounced dead on the evening of August 20, 2024.
The police at Kiyenje Police Post were alerted, and a murder case was registered. The crime scene was visited, examined, and documented, leading to the arrest of the suspect. The body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
The murder case has been registered under reference number CRB 979/2024.
In a separate incident, police in Rukungiri have recorded a fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of 17-year-old Ayesiga Dismus, a resident of Buyanja. The accident occurred yesterday at Buyanja Town along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road.
It is reported that the deceased was riding a motorcycle, registration number UFJ 623W, from Rukungiri towards Ntungamo at high speed.
While attempting to overtake a vehicle near Gas Fuel Station in Buyanja Town, he drifted out of his lane and tried to brake upon seeing an oncoming vehicle, an Isuzu Forward truck, registration number UAU 865J, driven by Byamukama Shaban.
The motorcycle collided head-on with the truck, resulting in Dismus’s death on the spot.
Police examined and documented the accident scene, recorded relevant statements, and conducted a postmortem examination.
Both the motorcycle and the vehicle are currently parked at Buyanja Police Station pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
The accident has been primarily attributed to reckless riding by the motorcyclist, and a case has been registered under reference number TAR 71/2024 for further investigation.
