In Mbarara—
Bazil Bataringaya Rwakweene the Member of Parliament Kashari North constituency in Mbarara district has lashed at Mbarara city leadership over their resolution to shift to Kamuuzi offices on 1st Oct. 2021.
In a council meeting held on 27th.August.2021 at Mbarara city hall, Mbarara city Councilors resolved to push Mbarara district to Bwizibwera then shift to Kamukuzi offices.
The councilors also tasked their city mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi to boycott the harmonization committee chaired by Bazil Bataringaya on grounds that he is not neutral to chair the committee since he also has interests in the matter.
However, addressing journalists yesterday at Mbarara district headquarters, Bataringaya regarded the council’s resolution to shift to Kamukuzi as an empty threat.
He explained that Mbarara city leadership cannot tamper with district’s offices at Kamukuzi until two years of grace given to them by the government are over.
Bataringaya confirmed to journalists that Mbarara city leadership led by Kakyebezi indeed boycotted the meeting. He however said that this did not stop them from submitting their recommendations to the minister of local government Raphael Magyezi.
He added that the city cannot claim anything at Kamukuzi until government decides their fate since the district is the sitting land lord and owner of the premises hence it is the district that can be in contest and can even decide to go legal.
“Mbarara city can’t claim ownership of these properties since Mbarara district still has land titles. However, the central government will decide the fate of these properties,” he added.
Efforts to get in touch with the city mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi were futile since he could not pick our numerous calls.
