The chairman parliamentary committee on finance , planning and economic development, also Member of Parliament Rubanda East Hon. Henry Ariganyira Musasizi said that taxes on the internet are a mandatory to all internet users in the next financial year.
Speaking to www.mknewslink.com at parliament on Wednesday, Musasizi noted that according to the coming budget, every internet user must spend at least 100shs on Mega Byte (MB) everyday.
“For MBs taxes you must pay, no negotiation,” he said
According to www.mknewslink.com Managing Director Mr.Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante who had petitioned parliament challenging the tax, it is unfair to pay taxes on both airtime and MB.
Kasibante said that this country depends on the internet noting that taxing it will affect the development of the country.
He added that it is also dangerous to the online journalism and business because many people will not manage to buy data to read the news and do business on online.
Kasibante called upon Ugandans not to lose hope but to remain in this struggle because they must win. He added that despite the fact that the government has forcefully slapped taxes on internet; Ugandans should not give up on the fight.
