Local council ones and parish chairpersons in Rukungiri district have been called upon to supervise and overlook government projects in their communities in a bid to streamline service delivery and accountability of government funds.
The appeal was on Friday made by the Buyanja sub-county chief Gumizamu Mparana while addressing a one day leadership meeting at the sub- county headquarters in the Rukungiri district.
Mparana told the leaders that they are the gate keepers of government projects adding that their performance depends on monitoring and supervision done on such projects.
He also implored them to always spare some time and visit government utilities such as health centers and public schools make reports on their performance as a way of improving service delivery.
“Always take time to inspect government project like the youth livelihood programme, and government amenities such as schools and health centres to ensure they are serving the right purpose,” said Mparana.
The Buyanja sub- county LCIII chairperson, Agaba Emmy Rubondo implored the leaders to revive the local council court to deal with small claim cases so as to decongest national courts.
“Local council courts will help solve small cases so that upper court can get relief to only deal with big cases like rape, defilement and corruption,” said Rubondo.
