Rwampara County Member of Parliament Charles Ngabirano has urged the finance Committee of Parliament to grant confirm the supplementary budget presented by the Electoral Commission to organize Local council ones and twos elections.
Speaking to mknewslink.com, Ngabirano, said that these elections have been long overdue therefore they should be conducted and concluded without any more excuses.
Addressing the media on Tuesday at the EC head offices in Kampala the commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugyenyi revealed that his administration needs more shs 7 billion to successfully organize LC1 and LC2 elections.
Byabakama noted that the commission had been facilitated with enough money last year but the budget was affected by the Court Order that saw a subsequent postponement of the exercise.
He added that they had already recruited some staff to work on the exercise countrywide and they were using part of the 15 bill ions which had got then therefore they need extra cash of about Shs7 billion to close the financing gap if they are to successfully conduct the exercise.
On that note Ngabirano wants the government to grant the commission with these funds as LC 1 and 2 leaders are needed in our communities.
