Right back Lichtsteiner was out of contract at Juventus this summer having won seven Serie A titles in as many years.
The 34-year-old will wear the No.12 shirt for the Gunners, which was previously worn by Olivier Giroud.
“It’s a great moment,” Lichtsteiner said “It’s a great for me after Juventus to come to Arsenal and have this big challenge to make big things [happen] with this big club.

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Brazil international Fred for £52million.
The midfielder will join from Ukraine side Shakhtar Donetsk where he has spent the last five seasons.
An official statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos (Fred).
“A further announcement will be made in due course.”
Fred, who featured in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Croatia at Anfield on Sunday, arrived at Carrington for his medical on Monday morning.
Fred is yet to sign his contract, but the Red Devils have announced an arrangement has now been agreed with the Ukrainian club.
Fred has spent five seasons at Shakhtar Donetsk
The central-midfielder, who takes a more defensive role, becomes Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer.
Fred was previously linked with a move to rivals Manchester City, but it’s been reported that Pep Guardiola’s side cooled their interest in the Brazil ace.
It is thought Fred will provide competition for Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Ander Herrera in midfield, while also helping fill the void left by the recently retired Michael Carrick.
The Brazilian won three league titles in Ukraine, as well as three domestic c
Yaya Toure offers to play for United, Arsenal or Liverpool for £1-a-week
Yaya Toure’s agent has sensationally revealed the midfielder would be happy to play for Manchester United, Arsenal or Liverpool for just £1-a-week.
Ivory Coast star Toure is a free agent this summer after leaving Manchester City at the end of the season.
And representative Dimitri Seluk insists there are clubs who have already made offers to Toure, but the duo are holding out hope of securing another Premier League move and would accept a pittance.
The 35-year-old was on £220,000-a-week at the Etihad having spent eight seasons at the club.
“Now Yaya has many offers from different countries, where they are ready to pay a lot of money, but we decided to dedicate the next season to Guardiola,” Seluk told sport24. “And to prove and show the fans of Manchester City that Yaya is not finished with football. He is full of energy and wants to play this season in England,’ he said.
Arsenal are poised to make a shock move for Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini – but the Red Devils are adding to their midfield options.
The Belgian is out of contract this summer and talks over a new deal have so far been unsuccessful.
Arsenal are set to hold talks with Fellaini and could land him on a free transfer.
But one player coming in at United is Brazilian midfielder Fred.
United have agreed a deal in principle with the Shakhtar star and it won’t be long now.
Hatim Ben Arfa has been released by Paris Saint-Germain and is available on a free, while West Brom’s Jonny Evans is interesting Leicester.
Elsewhere, Liverpool are stepping up their attempts to sign Nabil Fekir before the World Cup gets underway next week.

Leicester open talks for Evans
Leicester have opened talks with West Brom stopper Jonny Evans who has given up on a dream switch to Manchester City.
Albion’s Northern Ireland international and club captain is poised to leave the Premier League basement club on a bargain £3million release clause.
Ex-Manchester United trainee Evans, who lives in the North West, had been hoping for a move to champions City.
Pep Guardiola previously tried to sign Evans last summer but City failed to agree a fee.
Now Evans has been told City will not be returning for him and he is speaking to the Foxes about a switch instead.
Evans didn’t start any of Albion’s final six games under Darren Moore and declared himself unfit for the club’s final game at Crystal Palace after relegation was confirmed.
He had previously one of four senior stars to break a curfew in February in Spain when they borrowed a taxi in a prank.
But Evans remains highly-rated by Northern Ireland where boss Michael O’Neill has described him as a ‘top six player’.
Leicester have already signed Porto defender Ricardo Pereira and have an interest in Norwich’s James Maddison and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.
Ben Arfa’s PSG exit
Looks like Hatem Ben Arfa is leaving Paris Saint Germain this summer.
The former Newcastle attacking midfielder hasn’t played a competitive match since March 2017 after falling out of favour with Unai Emery.
According to L’Equipe there are Premier League clubs interested in adding him to their squads – with Southampton previously linked
Brighton in for McNair
Brighton are trying to land Sunderland’s Paddy McNair.
The ex-Manchester United trainee is not believed to have a relegation clause and is likely to be sold this summer.
Premier League Brighton want McNair and have seen bids of around £2million and £3.5m rejected but are planning a fresh bid of £5m.
It should be enough to secure versatile defender McNair,23, who can also play in midfield and scored four goals in his final five games at relegated Sunderland.
He missed the start of the Championship season with cruciate knee ligament damage and suffered a succession of problems on his return but found top form after Easter.
MirrorSport understands Championship duo Middlesbrough and Derby are also monitoring McNair should the Northern Ireland international fail to land a top-flight club.
He has 18 international caps and recently started both Northern Ireland’s end of season friendlies against Panama and Costa Rica.
