Opposition Members of Parliament have today boycotted the presentation of the national budget over allegations that point them at the killing of Slain Legislator Ibrahim Abiriga.
Abiriga, who represented Arua Municipality, was last week gunned down by unknown assailants.
President Museveni and a number of political leaders from the ruling party pointed fingers at the opposition.
This led to the arrest of Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze (DP) while FDC’s Kaps Fungaroo is on the run.
Speaking to www.mknewslink.com, shadow internal affairs minister Muwanga Kivumbi (DP) and shadow minister for foreign affairs Atkins Katusabe (FDC) said the boycott was in solidarity with their hunted colleagues.
“We cannot attend a ritual when our friends are being tormented by the state,” said Muwanga.
Mr Muwanga described the budget activity as a mere ritual since the budget had been passed by Parliament.
Mr Katusabe condemned the government of turning a blind eye on the killings.
“You cannot accuse the opposition because you do not agree with them, the government must hunt down the killers rather than mudslinging the opposition,” he said.
Mr Katusabe added that, “we are human beings and we do not value bloodshed, the government needs to respect this.”
By press time, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza was expected to address the media about their decision.
