Police from Kabwohe police station on Monday 30, found a tougher time to calm the situation in Kabwohe town as citizens were demonstrating against Elioda’s victory accusing him of rigging votes.

Drama begun when Police blocked all Bodaboda riders who had attended Virginia’s consultation gathering at Sheema hall play ground in Kabwohe and refused them to go back to town where they work from and impounded some motorcycles which annoyed other traders who started throwing stones to the police.

When asked whether her gathering was illegally conducted, former FDC candidate Virginia Plan Mugyenyi told mknewslink.com that she asked the permission from the police.

According to the eye witness who preferred anonynimity,  what confused people was that even other Bodaboda men who didn’t attend the gathering for them they were allowed to pass and police had started beating whoever they find on their ways.

Meanwhile Bukedde news reporter Mr Ddamba Wisely was also arrested by Hon Elioda’s workers and taken to ICOBI offices on un known matters however when other journalists tried to follow him, they were chased in a critical way by ICOBI employees.
Ddamba was beaten by Mr Amanya Jordan who worked on radio west and director BFM Radio now a sub county chief Rugarama sub county as the former tried to capture what was taking place at Kibutamo polling station at night.

ICOBI is a non governmental organisation founded by Hon Elioda Tumwesigye, therefore it is alleged that Ddamba’s arrest are connected with the incidence that took place about him and Jordan since many have relied on it asking themselves many questions why Jordan was stopping him from capturing what was taking place.

Supporters of FDC candidate in the recently concluded Sheema municipality Parliamentary elections Ms. Virginia Plan Mugyenyi have asked their candidate to appeal in courts of law against Minister Elioda Tumwesigye’s Victory.

Ms. Virginia together with her supporters on Monday gathered at Sheema hall play ground in Kabwohe town Sheema municipality where the later asked her to appeal in courts of law  noting that they have enough evidence showing how Hon Elioda and his people rigged votes in various polling stations especially during night. They also contributed 500000 shs for their candidate to help her in process.

Ms Virginia lost to the minister of science and technology Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye in the hotly contested elections for Sheema Municipality Parliamentary race on 27^th July 2018.

Virginia said that being people’s leader, she can’t make any decision before consulting the people who voted her and she also stamped in it that the elections weren’t free and fair.
“I’m not like other leaders you know who decide for us, I couldn’t make any decision before consulting you people who voted me, the elections were un fair,” Virginia said.

She also emphasized that results indicated that she had won but results changed at night.

“All the day results showed that we were winners however the only night results showed that Mr Elioda was the winner,” she said.

“Even some electoral commission boxes reached at various polling stations like Kitojo, Kibutamo and others when they were already un sealed, when I went at the district to inquire from the district returning officer, she told me that the electoral commission is doing its job and the next step will be courts of law.
Even electoral commission rules say that nobody should reach at the polling station armed but the military and police men came with guns ,instead of protecting they intimidated people ” Virginia added.

Meanwhile, some agents and coordinators had started bringing out the evidence showing how the elections were rigged but the former Rwampara MP Hon Vincent Mujuni Kyamadiidi requested them to stop and asked them to go to FDC’s offices privately saying that they can be abducted or intimidated by the government.

Opposition political party, Forum for Democratic Change has announced a countrywide uprising over what they termed as a ‘disappointing’ outcome of the age limit petition.

The Constitutional Court panel of five judges sitting in Mbale on Thursday in a 4:1 upheld the amendment of article 102(b) to lift the minimum and maximum age limit from the constitution.

Parliament in December passed the controversial age limit bill to lift the cap on the presidential and district chairperson age limit from the constitution after a total of 317 MPs voted in favour of the motion whereas 97 were against it, prompting a group of five people to petition the Constitutional court against the decision.

Addressing journalists during a weekly press conference on Monday, FDC party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi said it was disappointing that court decided to rule against the will of the people by upholding the age limit amendment.

“It is extremely disappointing that after bringing out facts that political decisions have caused many problems for this country, the judges found it fit to maintain the status quo in regards the age limit,”Amuriat said.

The court also ruled that a sitting president can continue to be in power if his term has not yet expired despite clocking 75 years of age.

Justice Remmy Kasule in his judgment said that there is no backing in the constitution that states that when a president clocks 75 years of age, he must vacate office adding that ages comes to different bodies differently.

“The Odoki Committee itself didn’t find the AgeLimit of the President as one of the critical pillars of the constitution to be entrenched. Accordingly, I find that the Amendment of article 102(b) doesn’t contravene the constitution,” Justice Kasule ruled.

“If we have fixed the minimum age, we don’t need to consider the maximum, the electorates will decide.”

Amuriat, told journalists that since the only safeguard to the peaceful handover of power was removed, it was high time they went to the court of public opinion to settle the matter.

“Only a negligible number of people want to force themselves into the throats of Ugandans. We are going to mobilise the public to rise up against this injustice,” he said.

Asked to clear the air on what he exactly meant, the FDC president said the next few months are going to be for action countrywide in show of discontent over the age limit ruling by the Constitutional Court.

“If you think it is business as usual, you are wrong. It is business unusual. We are going to mobilise the public for an uprising because we are protected by the constitution,” POA warned.

By announcing an uprising, the opposition political party will go face to face with police who are expected to stop their activities in what seems to be the first hard task for police under the leadership of Martin Okoth Ochola.

Previously, such activities by the opposition have been thwarted by police led by now incarcerated Gen.Kale Kayihura.

Saturday July 28^th 2018 was a big day for gospel musician, Judith Babirye as she introduced fellow MP, Paul Musoke in a colourful ceremony. Babirye invited only a few friends and the event was highly guarded as there were fears that exes from both sides would disrupt the occasion.

The two lovers kept smiling at each other, but these smiles could be temporary as Babirye’s first husband, Samuel Niiwo, has said that he has never divorced Babirye.

When she filed for divorce last year, they were supposed to have several meetings to iron out things or proceed with the divorce, however, they only one meeting.

According to the law, it is illegal for a woman to be married to two men at the same time. There are fears that Niiwo could sue Babirye and the new husband although he doesn’t say whether he has such intentions.

President Museveni has blasted Constitutional Court judges who last week struck down the 7-year term of the president and MPs from the Constitution.

The judges ruled the extension of the life of Parliament and Local Council leaders took away the social contract and rights they had with the electorate of five years, and not seven years

Justice Kenneth Kakuru ruled “the principle of holding elections after every five years, to hold otherwise, is to hold absurdity,” adding, “It could declare the current Members of Parliament for life just like [President Idi] Amin did.”

But in a statement issued on Monday, Museveni, who is in South Africa for the BRICS Summit, said the judges fell short of understanding the importance of a long term for the elected leaders but concentrated on theatrics.

“Unfortunately, our judges in Uganda spend more time on form and not substance, on procedure and not substance,” said Museveni.

“My freedom fighter’s sense of justice, in this matter (the age limit ruling) focuses more on the convenience of 7 years rather than 5 years.  With the 5 years, a lot of time is spent on electioneering and less time on development; the first two years settling in, the third year some work in the constituency and, then, by the 4th year, electioneering again,” he emphasized.

Museveni said, in the end, however, “the judges are not the ones in charge of the country.”

He however noted that NRM MPs through his guidance and people can make constitutional reforms with or without judges.

The President said the Constitution should “facilitate the modernization of Uganda and the economic and political integration of Africa for the survival of the people of Africa as free people, not just the theatre of democracy of form without addressing substance.”

This is the first time Museveni is expressing his views on the judgement read last week in Mbale.

Nevertheless, Museveni praised the judges for ruling in favour of anyone above 75 years of age contesting for president, saying “the undemocratic age limit nonsense was clear.

In Masindi

Personnel at Masindi police station are finding it hard to answer nature’s call after their latrine stance filled up.

The latrine stances that were constructed 10 years ago are filled to the brim with maggots seen wiggling on the floor, putting the lives of the police officers at risk.

A source at Masindi police station told our reporter today that the poor sanitation at the station risks the officers to contract diseases.

The source added that currently, police officers are boarding motorcycles seeking latrines to ease themselves away from the station.

When contacted, the Masindi District Police Commander, Samuel Ondong confirmed the report adding that he had already informed the Force’s estate department and that it is yet to respond.

However, he said some Good Samaritans have offered to help the police station get new latrines and by the time of filing this story, they had started sinking the pit.
