FLOODS HIT IBANDA MUNICIPALITY, DESTROY CROPS, LIVESTOCK

The future of the residents in Ibanda municipality,Ibanda district is in jeopardy after the rain hit the area washing away several acres of crops, trees, and huge stones among others.
The rain that lasted for almost an hour left residents in the areas of Kyereeta cell in Kyaruhanga Ward, Kagongo division, Kigarama upper cell and Nyakatookye all in Ibanda municipality council homeless in addition to losing their property and livestock.
The LC 1, Kyereeta cell, Mr. Robert Mugisha told the journalists that the disaster left a number of poultry and ten goats belonging to Mr. David Mujuni of Kyereeta cell killed.
According to business men, many shops including Centenary bank were flooded causing the businesses to standstill as the shop attendants were busy pouring out the running water from the shops.
The District Environmental Officer, Mr. Tom Nuwagira noted that people who uprooted trees in the hills and those who encroach on swamps to grow crops create a room for erosion.
