In Bushenyi—

Residents of Bushenyi have been warned against planting eucalyptus trees which will turn Uganda into a desert country.

This was said in a meeting sponsored by Uganda Citizens Alliance chaired by RDC Jolly Tibemanya held at Tuzza hotel in Bushenyi.

The concern was raised by Yasin Bilali who revealed that a eucalyptus tree consumes 11 litres of water every day and was adopted by the whole meeting.

The meeting resolved to carryout sensitization meetings aimed at educating the public on the dangers of eucalyptus trees and resolve to plant other tree species which are environmental friendly.

The breakfast meeting formed a committee chaired by the RDC to start work Tuesday next week to sensitize and make operations of removing those in wetlands.

Deo Atuhaire the president of Uganda Citizens Alliance called upon stakeholders to protect water sources and swamps adding that without them NWSC can not get water to supply.

In Kikuube—-

The state minister for Environment Beatrice Atim Anywar has expressed concern over large scale destruction in Bugoma central Forest reserve in Kikuube district.

The forest covers 41,144 hectares about 410 square miles but recently, four different individuals who claimed that they had received titles of ownership on 6100 hectares measuring 27 square miles cleared part of the reserve.

The claimants include Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom which leased its land to Hoima Sugar Company totaling to 5200 hectares which is equivalent to 22 square miles to MZ investments LTD which is claiming ownership of 900 hectares about 5 square miles.

Others are the Sub – County Chairpersons of Kabwooya and Kyangwali in Kikuube District

The minister who was touring the forest was saddened by the land ministry which has gone ahead granting land titles to new owners in the forest.

She called for an immediate end to the practice and corrupt officers who issued out fake land titles be brought to book.

The executive director National forest Authority Tom Okello Obong said that he was sued and issued a court injunction from accessing part of the land in conflict.

Isaac Kalemba, the speaker of parliament (Olukurato) of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom also said that it’s unfortunate that the previous cabinets issued out a lease of 99 years to Hoima Sugar Company but as a kingdom they are looking at how they are going to end the practice.

In Mbarara—

The Buhweju legislator Francis Mwijukye of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who doubles as the commissioner of parliament has locked horns with the former Rwampara MP Vincent Mujuni Kyamadidi over alleged abusive statements.

Speaking on a local radio in Mbarara over the weekend Mwijukye attacked Kyamadidi for crossing from Rwampara to Buhweju while in company of Buhweju constituency MP aspirant, Alex Rugyero to abuse him.

Mwijukye added that Kyamadidi who referred the him as “a mere paper” was hired by some people whom he didn’t disclose to tarnish his name.

Kyamadidi a former NRM rebel MP who joined FDC party and later crossed back to the ruling NRM while talking to www.mknewslink.com, rubbished Mwijukye’s allegations saying that he didn’t utter such statements.

The former legislator adds that he is not fighting Mwijukye though he is aware that Mwijukye, Rwampara MP Ngabirano Charles and a one Ashiraf Rweyeshera are conniving to fight him in his plans to unseat Charles Ngabirano come 2021

Rwampara MP seat is one of the hotly contested seats with Ngabirano and Kyamadidi facing other strong aspirants including the secretary for labour affairs on the national youth committee Julius Karuhanga and FDC’s Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom.

The western Uganda Journalists are mourning the untimely death of Arinda Confidence who has been working with 89.7 Iraka radio in Ibanda district.

Arinda who is popularly known as “Kaportable” passed away on Monday 13th July 2020 at Ishaka Adventist Hospital in Bushenyi District where she has been receiving malaria treatment according to reports.

‘Kaportabe’ has been presenting the morning show “Oreiregye” which runs from 6:00am – 10:00am every weekday (Monday to Friday).

One of the deceased’s workmate only identified as DJ Joker told this www.mknewslink.com reporter that Kaportable has been one of the most admired presenters who greatly inspired his co-presenters and fellow employees.

Born in Mitooma District, ‘Kaportable’ worked with different radio stations in three districts including; Theodore FM in Bushenyi district, Freedom Radio in Kabale district before joining the Ibanda-based Iraka Radio.

Kaportable’s death comes just a month after veteran journalist Francis Mutazindwa succumbed to pneumonia in Kampala.

Mr. Mutazindwa, who worked for the Vision Group in various capacities, died of pneumonia at Kampala Hospital on Sunday June 7 where he had been admitted a few days ago, his wife Betty Komujuni said.

He was until his death, working for Revival Radio Station, an Ankole Diocese owned community radio station.

Previously another media personality Christine Kabasweke, an accountant with vision group was discovered lifeless in her room on Mayor’s house along Bucunku Road.

Bernard Tumuhimbise, a popular radio host in Western Uganda was also found dead behind the premises of Nyumbani FM in Rwamwanja, Kamwenge District which is owned by Gender Minister Frank Tumwebaze.

Tumuhimbise alias Kazimoto committed suicide, according to the officials of the station.
