KABALE RDC, DPC ON SPOT FOR ALLEGEDLY SUPPORTING PROHIBITED PUBLIC GATHERINGS
By our reporter
In Kabale
A section of residents in Ndorwa West constituency Kabale district are accusing the RDC Darius Nandinda and the DPC Brian Ampaire for supporting and supervising illegal public gatherings in the county which could favour the spread of COVID 19 in the district.
The residents say a team led by the Ryakarimira Town council mayor Can. Enock Kazooba and the political assistant of Minister David Bahati only identified as Wilber has since last week been holding big public gatherings distributing between 3000 to 5000 shillings to every resident in Ndorwa East constituency telling them to vote President Museveni and Minister David Bahati.
The residents noted that the team was escorted by around five police officers wondering how they got the security to protect them while they publically opposed the Presidential directives banning public gatherings and encouraging keeping social distance.
Herbert Byamanyoha a resident of Murandamo in Bigaaga parish Butanda Sub County Kabale district said that he was almost beaten while at Murandamo Trading Center when he asked Kazooba why they were holding a gathering when the President banned them.
Byamanyoha said that Kazooba told the gathering that they were given permission by the Kabale Resident District Commissioner Darius Nandinda to hold the gatherings claiming that the RDC also ordered the District Police Commander Brian Ampaire to give them enough security since they were distributing the President’s and Minister’s money.
Sarah Asasira and Julius Rwakojo residents of Hamuhambo in the same county wondered how the RDC and DPC could give security to a team that was holding public gatherings without observing social distancing while people were also not putting on face masks which could put residents at a risk of getting Coronavirus.
They wondered why the President should put directives intended at stopping the spread of Covid 19 then authorise his representatives to disobey them.
When www.mknewslink.com reporter contacted the DPC Ampaire on the matter, he said they had also received photos of Kazooba meeting the residents but refuted allegations that they gave him security.
Ampaire said that they have already initiated inquiries to establish the truth of the matter and bring the culprits to answer related charges.
Our reporter could not get a comment from the Kabale District RDC Nandinda as he could not receive his phone calls.
Starting Friday last week, different social media platforms were awash with photos and videos of Kazooba holding big gatherings in Ndorwa West constituency. In the videos and photos, people were seen congested in lines and others in groups without observing any social distancing and without face masks.
