Police in Rukungiri are holding an18 year old boy for chopping and killing a fellow teenager.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police spokesman the suspect is Benidicto Niwamanya a resident of Nyarutojo Parish in Kambuga Sub County Kanungu District.

Maate alleges that Christopher Ahereeza, a 16-year-old senior two student at St Joseph’s S S Rushasha, who hails from Kagashe cell Kagashe ward Eastern division Rukungiri municipality picked a quarrel with Niwamanya on Friday evening at Kagashe playground.

Niwamanya rushed to the home of Emmanuel Pharaoh his employer, picked a panga, went back to the playground and critically cut Ahereza Christopher around the neck.

Maate adds that the victim was rushed to Nyakibale hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“It is quite unfortunate for such a youth to be imprisoned at such a tender age on a situation he would have handled amicably. We have him in detention and he will be charged accordingly” Maate said.

The Rubanda East Member of Parliament Henry Musasizi has ordered his electorates not to vote him back to Parliament if they don’t want to vote Stephen Kasyaba.
Kasyaba, a friend to Musasizi is once again eyeing the Rubanda district Chairmanship seat, which he initially lost to the incumbent  Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema, in the election that was held after Rubanda was curved from Kabale on 1st July 2016.

However, the Rubanda District boss (Biryabarema) is now hopeful to unseat Musasizi for the Rubanda East Member of Parliament seat.

While meeting village funeral associations (Bataka Twezikye Groups) yesterday in Kerere Mpungu Hamurwa Sub County Rubanda district, Musasizi said that instead of voting him back to Parliament and they don’t vote Kasyaba for the district boss seat, the electorates should better vote Kasyaba and leave him (Musasizi).

Musasizi said that Kasyaba has all the qualities of a good leader and should therefore be voted for the development of Rubanda district.

He added that when they vote Kasyaba, even if he (Musasizi) is not voted back to Parliament, his constituency shall still develop because it will be well represented by Kasyaba.

Interdicted former Mbarara grade one magistrate Opio Belmos Ogwang has petitioned the civil division of high court seeking to block his sexual harassment trial before the judicial service commission.

Opio’s application is filed before the civil division of high court by his lawyers of Masereka ,Mangeni and company advocates.

He wants his trial blocked until the determination of the main suit where he is challenging the legality of being interdicted for more than five years with half pay.

Opio was appointed as Grade one magistrate on June 10th ,2008 and confirmed into service on Sept.20th ,2010 by the Judicial Service Commission. However, on April 2nd, 2015 Opio was interdicted on sexual harassment allegations.

According to the letter, the then chief Registrar Paul Gadenya Wolimbwa interdicted Opio following a complaint of sexual harassment lodged against him by a former female clerk at Kyenjonjo chief magistrate court.

Wolibwa wrote in his letter that “following such, the judiciary internal disciplinary committee found that the misconduct was grave and besides, it was the second time it was handling sexual harassment case against the same Opio.

The other case had been filed against him by an accused person in a criminal matter in 2011 in Kumi district, but Opio was given a warning then.

As a result, Opio’s matter was forwarded to the judicial service commission for action and he denied the charges against him in July 2018

But since then Opio says that the disciplinary committee of Judicial service commission has never concluded his matter and has kept him on interdiction for five years now.

The mandatory period for interdiction is not more than six months , according to the public service standing orders

But according to Julius Mwebembezi the judicial service commission Registrar for the Directorate of planning, Research and inspectorate ,the commission cannot comment on this matter because they have not yet been served with copies of Opio’s court file which is allocated to justice Musa Ssekana who is yet to fix a date for hearing.
