7 CHILDREN, HOUSEMAID RESCUED FROM FLOODS IN IBANDA

At least twenty homes in Kyaruhanga II cell in Kagongo Divisio, Ibanda Municipality, Ibanda district have been destroyed and eight people were rescued from floods following a rain that started at 8.30 pm last night.
According to locals, seven children aged between 3- 9 years and a house maid aged 30 years from one family were saved by good Samaritans from floods after their residential house was destroyed by water.
The floods had carried them for about ½ Kilometer and were rushed to Ibanda Hospital while others are admitted in private clinics in critical condition.
The Ibanda municipality, Mayor Apollo Kibeherere who visited the scene early this morning said a number of homesteads have been submerged by water from the hills and has washed away banana plantation, coffee trees among other crops.
“Other crops like beans, germinating millet, groundnuts, cassava and others have been destroyed. A number of chickens were reportedly killed in floods,” Kibeherere added.
