MASINDI: BURULI MP ELECT TO LOSE SEAT OVER FAILURE TO RESIGN FROM CIVIL SERVICE
By Our reporter
In Masindi–
Aled Akugizibwe, the MP-elect for Buruli in Masindi district is at the verge of losing his seat for allegedly joining politics without resigning from public service.
The 34 year-old is until now receiving salary as a teacher at Kings College Budo, Uganda’s top flight school.
Ranked by government as the best mathematics teacher in 2019, Akugizibwe lost in the NRM party primaries last year to Kabindi Steven, a presenter at Radio Kitara.
Emerging from 3rd position, Akugizibwe soldiered on, emerged victorious in the final elections. He was followed by Hon. Jalia Bintu, who had shifted to Buruli from the Masindi woman slot where she has been at its helm as MP for two decades. NRM flag bearer,Kabindi became a distant third, while little-known FDC’s Fred Banage was into an invisible fourth and last.
Police, through Gimei Topher Nakoko, the director CID has written to the permanent secretary ministry of public service to explain how Akugizibwe was nominated without clearance.
While the school claims their teacher resigned, the ministry of education and that of public service don’t have a communication to that effect.
Jalia Bintu has instructed her lawyers to push on. She wants to be declared winner, to avoid returning to the voters.
Wakiso local govt that hosts Budo has distanced itself from the purported backdated resignation letter from Akugizibwe.
Voters in Buruli are up in arms against Bintu for causing confusion and against Akugizibwe for wasting their time.
Meanwhile, Kabindi Steven, a second time loser has started campaigns in anticipation for a possible bye-election.
Going by the campaign slogan “Kasojo Kato” ( a young spear grass), throughout the campaigns,Akugizibwe survived on handouts from friends and whoever cared, many times going hungry and avoiding fundraising.
He doesn’t deny receiving and utilising the salary-in excess of shs1, 000,000 per month, benefiting from a government salary raise for science teachers.
