In Fort portal—
Kabarole district chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga wants Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and NGOs operating in the district to extend the Adolescents Sexual Reproductive Health Rights services to the rural areas so as to prevent the staggering numbers of teenage pregnancies, unsafe abortions and teen marriage.
During the district stakeholders advocacy meeting held at the district, organized by ACODEV, he observed that if ACODEV and other partners scale up the youth friendly sexual reproductive services to the rural; areas, engage parents, local leaders and cultural leaders, the overwhelming numbers of teenage pregnancies and teen marriage will be averted.
Catherine Kemigabo the District Health Educator Kabarole revealed that the meeting was intended to advocate and lobby leaders for the sexual youth friendly reproductive health corners at health centers following the rampant drug abuse, unplanned teenage pregnancies, low uptake of contraceptives.
Brenda Mpaata the regional coordinator ACODEV narrated that they found out that health facilities in the district lack youth friendly services making it difficult for them to access sexual reproductive health services.
She noted that that during their 5 year service they have equipped three health facilities that include Kiko HC, Karambi HC and Mucwa HC with youth friendly services to strengthen their relationship, interaction and access to sexual reproductive services like family planning, condoms and counseling.
