In Kabale—
The hearing of an election petition case filed by the former Rujumbura county legislator Fred Tumuheirwe Turyamuhweza against the incumbent Hon. Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi on allegations of voter bribery commenced on Thursday at Kabale High court.
Through his lawyer Jude Byamukama of Jude Byamukama and co. Advocates, Turyamuhweza accuses Hon. Jim Muhwezi of voter bribery through fundraisings and donations all which were banned by the electoral commission in campaign period.
Turyamuhweza ran to court protesting Muhwezi’s victory stressing that the electoral commission erroneously declared him a winner of January 14th election seeking court to overturn the election results.
However through his defence lawyers led by Mwesigwa Rukutana of Rukutana and co. Advocates Maj. Gen. Muhwezi, the security Minister denies all the allegations levied against him as false propaganda.
During the court sitting, among Petitioner’s 5 witnesses, only one showed up and the witnesses of the 1st respondent (Jim Muhwezi) were all cross examined according to their affidavits.
The lead Justice in this case Philip Odoki requested both parties to put their submissions in writing starting from 7th to 13th September before he sets the final ruling date.
