In Kanungu—
Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances under which banana plantation of Kinkizi west legislator James Ruugi Kaberuka was cut down.
It is alleged that the plantation was cut down by Steven Byamukama a business man in Mbarara city but a born of Nyamirama sub county in Kanungu district.
Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson told www.mknewslink.com that Byamukama sold a piece of land to MP James Kaberuka at a tune of 30 million shillings.
Maate revealed that Byamukama was paid first installment of 14 million cash, then 10M and still demanded 6 million shillings.
The police PRO added that Byamukama alleges that he has been calling MP Kaberuka for his balance of 6 million shillings but all in vain until 19th March 2022 at 10:00AM when Byamukama attacked the MP at his home asking for his money .
The attack then sparked into a scuffle after Kaberuka told Byamukama that he would not give him the remaining balance on grounds that he sold him a small piece of land at a high price which forced the angry Byamukama to allegedly cut down the plantation of the MP.
However, some eye witnesses alleged that the banana plantation was cut by one of the shamba boys of Kaberuka one Emmy Mugumya before rushing to police to report a case of malicious damage for the purpose of implicating Byamukama.
Maate told www.mknewslink.com that they are still investigating the case to bring out the truth in the matter.
