Police in Kikuube district is investigating the circumstances under which a man committed suicide after allegedly being overwhelmed by debts

The deceased has been identified as Derick Tumwesige, mid 20’s, a resident of Kyabatalya Cell in Buhimba Town Council Kikuube district.

The gruesome incident happened on Wednesday at around 2pm.

According to Ronald Murungi an eyewitness, Tumwesige was discovered by the maternal aunt dangling on the rope inside his rented room in the same town council.

‘’His aunt was searching for him since morning, his phone was available but no one was responding. He was found by the aunt dangling on the rope in his rented room,’’ he explained.

Murungi also told our reporter that since he didn’t leave any note behind, they don’t know the main cause of committing suicide.

It’s alleged that for a couple of days, the deceased said that he was overwhelmed by the debts.

‘’Few days back he wanted commit suicide citing of many debts, but we don’t know the exactly reason why he committed suicide,’’ the source said.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson ASP Julius Allan Hakiza said he is yet to get the details of the deceased.

‘’I’m yet to get the details of the deceased, but the rate at which people are committing suicide is worrying, there need for the intervention by the social workers,’’ he said.

Last week, four people committed suicide in Masindi district in a space of seven days.

Kanungu

Police in Kanungu yesterday registered a sudden death of a 45 year old man who was found dead from his bedroom.

Elly maate the Kigezi region Police spokesperson has identified the deceased as Julius Byamukama of Samaria cell Nyakashule ward Nyamirama town council Kanungu district,

It’s alleged that the deceased has been drinking for some time without eating

Maate explains that on  the 19/07/2022, the  deceased who had been ferrying sweet bananas, entered his house where he was found dead hours later

The Scene was visited by ASP OLARGIU INNOCENT the OC Station Nyamirama and crew, statements were recorded and   postmortem was carried out

Inquiries are on going.

Senior Presidential advisor on media and public affairs Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut has advised the people of Bushenyi to keep united and pray to God because He is the  giver and taker of lives.

She  was  today  20^th July 2022 addressing mourners at the burial of the young man called Moses Turyamuhebwa a son to Godfrey Obote of Bwatogo cell central ward, Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality.

The late Mzee Korutaro the grandfather of the late Moses Turyamuhebwa and late Elinest Karooro were very close friends and the families are still intact since the demise of those highly respected legends of Bushenyi District.

Hon. Karooro hailed the preacher of the day Rev. Peter for preaching very well and giving the public a message of hope and relief.

Rev. Peter during his sermon said a Runyankole proverb which is rich in a traditional setting. For this matter therefore, Hon. Karooro promised to include the proverb in her New vision newspaper column on Tuesday 25^thJuly 2022.

The Deputy Mayor Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality  Hon. Joel Nkole called upon members of the public to embrace  the parish development model and profitably utilize its funds.

On the other hand, Joel Nkole warned the residents of Bushenyi Ishaka municipality and other Ugandans that whoever has ever failed to pay in any government program shall not benefit from PDM.

Police in Greater Bushenyi and Sheema district are actively investigating the gruesome murder of a female juvenile identified as Christabella Kemigisha aged two and a half years who was killed and her body dumped in front of their neighbours’ home.
The deceased was residing with her mother one Nuwarimpa Stella, a resident of Mutanoga cell, Kigarama parish, Kigarama sub-county in Sheema district.
According to ASP Martial Tumisiime the Greater Bushenyi Police PRO, on the 18/7/2022 at about 4:00PMs, the deceased disappeared from the home of her grandfather, John Kakuru.
Tumisiime says this morning at around 0620hrs, the deceased body was found dumped at the home of their neighbour identified only as Constance.
A team of homicide detectives including SOCO and canine visited the scene. With the help of the Police sniffer dog, exhibits including a hoe, a log and clothes belonging to the deceased stained with blood were recovered in the house of Byamukama Justus,.
Byamukama has been arrested, while the body of the deceased has been conveyed to Kabwohe health center IV for postmortem examination.
4 accomplices have also been arrested and detained.

KABALE

The state House Health Monitoring Unit yesterday arrested four health workers at Kabale Regional referral hospital over misuse of office.

Speaking to our reporter at Mayors gardens In Kabale Municipality, Dr. Brian Arinaitwe who is the Ass. Director at Health Monitoring Unite and who had led the team from the state house said that the health monitoring unit has been exercising its mandate in Kabale and that they started with small Hospitals before going to Kabale regional referral hospital.

Arinaitwe said that they have been accessing how the regional referral hospital is offering services to the people and that they came with the message of accountability.

He added that they were able to arrest four health workers who couldn’t account for the medicine.

Dr Brian added that the arrested workers could not account for the medicine which the government has been sending and harassing the patients.

Brian added that they arrested the store manager, his assistant and two from other departments. He however declined to reveal their names saying that it would jeopardize their investigations

The Acting District Health Officer Dr Alfred Besigensi urged the health workers to do good saying that no one is interested in Going to police

He showed concern on the exploitation at the hospital mortuary and vowed to sit-down with Mugisha Gerevasio to identify the culprits and task them to return the money.

Besigensi added they want to eliminate the few workers who are trying to tarnish the name of the referral

 Mugisha Gerevasio a V.H.T from Mwanjari southern Division Kabale Municipality pinned the workers at the Hospital Mortuary for having extorted money beyond human recognition to people who come picking the dead bodies for a decent burial.

Mugisha said that they charged him 900,000SH before he was handed over the dead body which had stayed there for three days.

He added that it’s so unfortunate that one fails to buy medicine for his/her relative and after death, the Ruthless workers start taking advantage of extorting money at Hospital Mortuary.

The V.H.Ts further showed concern on excessive exploitation from the Maternity, Scan, and Dental Department.

Nurse Annet Naiga the in charge of  Maternity ward at kabale Referral hospital stressed that  mama kits are provided by the government at a free charge  to help expectantant mothers .

She however showed vowed to deal with her staff who may want to sell them and called upon the public to always   to report whoever asks money for mama kit in government hospital.

  The deputy Residents District Commissioner Bakunda Abel urged for more workshops to eliminate the few workers trying to tarnish the name of the hospital.

He vowed to deal with any wealth worker whose name shall be put in front of him accused of exploitation and called upon the public to always report those cases to relevant offices.

 Sources have it that the arrested Health workers were later released on a police bond.

The Chief Justice of Uganda Alfonse Owiny-Dollo  has termed delayed case judgements among Ugandan courts as scandalous as most Ugandans ran to the courts of law to seek immediate justice.

Dollo made the remarks today at Kisoro Chief Magistrate court during an engagement meeting with district leaders and stakeholders about the transformation agenda for the judiciary.

Dollo says that he is more bothered with genuine rural based Ugandans suffering because their cases take so many years in courts of law due to a number of reasons that are avoidable.

He noted that under new innovations in the Judiciary that include digital case management, supervision, creation of grade one courts at the constituency level and appropriation of facilities among all districts, justice will be achieved.

Owinyi Dollo says that he wants justice to wait for people rather than people waiting for justice in the transformation agenda and Kisoro has already benefited two grade one magistrates in Cyanika and Bunagana town councils while the district has got a chief magistrate.  He noted that the president has also backed him to have grade one magistrate courts extended to the sub county level in the near future.

He warned that by the time the transformation agenda is realised, Magistrates and judges will be highly supervised to ensure that there is no case being delayed in court.

The permanent secretary in the Judiciary, Pius Bingirimana commended the chief Justice for accepting to post a chief magistrate to Kisoro chief Magistrate court. He said that Rubuguri will also have a grade one court in a few months because the terrain of Kisoro makes it costly to access court services in Kisoro.

The Kisoro Grade one court Magistrate, Raphael Vueni introduced the new Chief magistrate, Kenneth Komakechi and said that he will improve service delivery. He demanded for more fleets of vehicles. He requested that the Cyanika grade one magistrate be given support staff as well as the Kisoro Chief Magistrate court.

Meanwhile, stakeholders commended the plans by the judiciary to enhance service delivery. They commended the grade one magistrate for his wise handling of cases which has contained harmony and appealed for his promotion.

The Kabale Resident Judge, Moses Kawumi appealed to the top Judiciary management to influence the parliament to pass the legal aid service bill to enable the poor access legal services in courts. He also noted that he is tired of murders in the region that result from alcoholism.

Rukungiri

5 students of Rukungiri high school in Rukungiri Municipality are nursing injuries at St Lukes Medical Chambers after their school was attacked by unidentified people carrying machetes and sticks  on Tuesday morning at around 4:OOAM.

According to 2 students who spoke to our reporter their school  attack occurred in the  morning  after the assailants broke into their dormitory and  caused mayhem

SP Musa Tibakirana, the Rukungiri district police commander says police was called to the scene and preliminary investigations point to students from the neighboring Makobore high school students as the perpetrators of the attack.

A roll call conducted at Makobore highs school by Police and school administration found 30 students missing from the boarding section, 5 students later showed up after the roll call

According to Robert Mugabe, the head teacher, Rukungiri high school, The assailants destroyed window panes on several buildings including   boys’ dormitory, Head teacher’s office, Director’s office, and the computer  laboratory

He added that this is not the first time Makobore High school students are attacking them, noting that the first attack  took place on 29.6.2022, the second  incident was  on 16.6.2022

The Injured are receiving treatment for cuts and bruises at St Luke’s medical chambers in Rukungiri Municipality.
