Councilors in Ntungamo have been emphasized to champion in fighting crimes which end up into serious chases such as murder.
Ntungamo Deputy Resident District Commissioner Robert Niwamanya Kamuntu said this while addressing the district council meeting today presided over by Speaker Nicholas Twikirize held in Ntungamo district council hall.
Kamuntu revealed that the district security committee is concerned about cases that have resulted into loss of lives yet they would have been solved at early stages.
He said they have tried all their best with the district commander, Uganda People’s Defense forces (UPDF) fraternity and they have culprits in cells and following those who ran away as they are at large and very many.
He therefore urged Councilors in the District to champion in the fight against criminality in the district before it escalate.
However, the Ntungamo chief administrative officer (CAO) Mathius Ndifuna called on the technocrats and the political wing to work together and ensure effective service delivery is realized.
He urged all the workers as well as technocrats to ensure that harmony is realized in case one has grades with someone rather than hating someone till death.
CAO Ndifuna said that bad publicity affects all leaders of Ntungamo and called upon all of them to have respect for one another as a council cannot develop when the politician and technical people are fighting each other.
The Itojo sub county district councilor Muhumuza Denis Savimbi revealed that pockets of insecurity are becoming common especially resulting from alcohol and drug misuse.
He called on the district security committee to move in and monitor the operations of bars and other happening places.
Savimbi revealed that development can always be realized when there is security that enables the people to operate peacefully.
Some other Councillors said that Kolokolo (gambling pots) is the main problem that brings insecurity in Ntungamo District whereby they are found almost in every trading centre.
