The territorial police of Kisoro made a significant arrest, apprehending five suspects for the illegal possession of government property.
The items in question included a firearm, a quantity of ammunition, military attire, a GPS machine, and binoculars.
Among the suspects were RA 247119 PTE Mbazira Trovice, who was affiliated with the joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force at Police Headquarters, Mugisha Bosco a 51-year-old resident of Ganda village in Wakiso district, Ntaate John a 25-year-old Muganda residing in Kazo West, Nabweru, Nansana, Muheki Elias a 30-year-old businessman residing in Rwebikona, Mbarara city, and Sekiranda a 32-year-old boda boda rider from Katooke village, Wakiso district.
According to reports, on 13th June 2023 at approximately 10:30 PM, D/sgt Warugaba Lawrence of Kisoro Central Police Station (CPS) received information from a concerned citizen regarding a vehicle that had been parked along Busamba Road in Kisoro municipality for an extended period.
D/sgt Warugaba Lawrence and a team of patrollers immediately proceeded to the scene and discovered a silver-colored Toyota Noah with registration number UAQ 236M parked along Busamba Road.
The vehicle had six occupants, four of whom were apprehended, namely Mugisha Bosco, Ntaate John, Sekiranda Stanley, and Muheki Elias, while the other two managed to flee.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, disclosed that all the suspects were subsequently taken to Kisoro CPS. Upon conducting a search, the authorities discovered three loaded magazines containing a total of 90 rounds of ammunition, a pair of UPDF uniforms, a UPDF warm suit, a GPS machine, a pair of binoculars, and a screwdriver, among other items.
Maate further revealed that approximately 30 minutes later, Mbazira Trovice, the aforementioned suspect, voluntarily presented himself at the police station, claiming ownership of the motor vehicle and some of the confiscated properties.
He alleged that he had entrusted the vehicle to a friend, whose identity is yet to be determined, and that this friend, who worked as a driver in Cyanika, had requested to borrow it.
Mbazira Trovice informed the authorities that he had reserved a room at Home Lodging on Kivenfere Road in Kisoro Municipality. A subsequent search of the room led to the discovery of an SMG rifle with the serial number UPDF XK 576754, loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.
The police spokesperson confirmed that investigations were currently underway to ascertain the motives behind the possession of the government stores. Once the motives are established, appropriate actions will be taken.
The case regarding the possession of government property has been officially registered at Kisoro District police station under the reference number SD 69/13/6/23.
