29 BSU STUDENTS REMANDED TO PRISON OVER WRONGFUL CONFINEMENT

Mbarara Grade I magistrate court has remanded 29 students of Bishop Stuart University till 9th.Nov.2021 over alleged planned demonstration at the University.
The Grade one magistrate court presided over by her worship Doreen Ainembabazi heard that on Friday 8th.Oct.2021 at the University Premises in Kakoba division, Mbarara city south the Guild president Abaho Wilson in company of other Guild representative Council members held an illegal meeting intended to organize fresh university’s guild elections without acknowledgement of the University’s administration.
However, in a court session where journalists had no access, her worship Doreen Ainembabazi denied bail to the students hence remanding them to Ntungamo government prison till 9th.Nov.2021. on charges of trying to rescue a person from a lawful custody and wrongful confinement.
Speaking to journalists after the court session the Bishop Stuart University Vice Chancellor Professor .Mauda Kamatenesi clarified that as the University administration they had wanted court to pardon the students since they are approaching examination Time but due to the gravity of the case they were denied bail
Students who spoke to our reporter noted that the University denied them money to hold fresh guild elections.
However they risk missing out on exams that are due this week on Wednesday if they fail to get sureties to secure them bail.
