3 CHILDREN RESCUED FROM RIVER NYAMWAMBA

Three children who had been stuck in the Middle of River Nyamwamba in Kasese Municipality have this evening been rescued by the Police Fire and Water Brigade, officials from the Uganda Red Cross and the community.
It is reported that today morning, the victims went with their parents to Bitsumba in Kiraha Ward to look after their crop gardens but upon return, they found when the water volumes of the river had increased.
After crossing one stream heading the second one, the victims could not proceed with the journey because of the increased water volumes. At that time, they couldn’t go back and the only option was to remain in the middle of the two streams yelling for help.
The rescued children including Regan Bwambale, 13, Ian Masereka, 12 and Lodrick Awithe, 13 belong to the same father, Elijah Muhindo who lives in Kizungu Cell, Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality.
Mr. Isaiah Thembo, the Chairperson Local Council I for Kitooro Cell where the incident happened warned the residents against crossing rivers during the wee and late hours.
Mr. Godfrey Kule Kiwede from the Uganda Red Cross hailed police and the residents for their quick response towards rescuing the victims.
SP Wilfred Isaiah Bagenda, the Kasese Divisional Police Commander, who described the rescue mission as hectic, however, noted that they were able to rescue the victims. He hailed the rescue team including officers from the Uganda Police Force, UPDF and Red Cross for their quick response.
