30 YEAR OLD CONVICTED IN BUSHENYI FOR AGGRAVATED DEFILEMENT

High court in Bushenyi has today convicted a 30-year-old man of aggravated defilement on his own plea.
Court led by Mbarara resident judge her lordship Joyce Kavuma heard that on the 8/Dec/2019 Mubarak Katwije while in Mashonga Kyamuhunga defiled his niece Sharifa Ahebwa who was 6 years then.
State prosecutor Baguma narrated that the accused found the victim playing with other children, called her inside the house and ordered her to remove her knicker after which he had sexual intercourse with her.
The accused pleaded guilty to the offence and asked for a lenient punishment.
However, prosecution prayed that he is given 20 years in prison since his offence is a serious one, he breached his duty of care and protection towards the child who always called him uncle.
The case was adjourned to 22nd Sept. 2022 for sentencing.
Katwije’s case is among the 60 gender-based violence cases; murder, aggravated defilement, trafficking in person to be handled by Justice Kavuma within one month beginning today 8th September 2022.
