Police in Rukungiri have in detention two family members allegedly to have strangled an 88 year old Wilson Kabarande to death.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson identified the suspects as Tindizira Kellen 63 years a wife to the deceased and her granddaughter Sheila Akatwijuka 18 years, both residents of Kiguha cell, Kahuku Parish, Nyakageme Sub County, in Rukungiri district.
ASP Maate told journalists that on the 27/09/2022, at around 01:37hours the wife of the deceased Tindizira Kellen, reported a case of suicide by hanging at Rwerere police post.
According to Tindizira, her husband, has been sick, so yesterday at around 21:00hrs, he moved outside with a bed sheet that he was going to rest outside after feeling heat in the house.
Maate revealed that shortly, the wife moved outside to check on him and she claims she found him hanging on guava tree in a bed sheet already dead.
The police spokesperson said that when police visited the scene, they doubted claims that the deceased hanged himself because the neck was not stiff and the body was in kneeling position, while the guava tree was too young, small and not bent neither broken, plus the mouth and eyes all were closed without any sign of hanging in the neck.
It’s on such suspicions that the two were arrested for questioning while the body was taken to Rwakabengo health centre III for post mortem.
