The Rukungiri Chief Administrative Officer Mathias Ndifuna has challenged parents to keep a deaf ear to government plea on free education and support the schools where they educate their children if they wish to get proper and good results from education.
Ndifuna said that while government has been promoting free education from primary through secondary education in form of UPE and USE, there is a need for parents to know what they want in education.
He was speaking on Saturday during the celebration and thanks giving for Immaculate Heart Girls school- Nyakibale upon the success in UCE and UACE examinations.
The Rukungiri district woman MP Ms Betty Muzanira who presided over the function said the students mentality is key in performance adding that such can only be attained when students enroll in traditionally good performing schools.
However she said that the government needs to strengthen the education standards in all schools to ensure a leveled ground.
25 students who got 18 and 19 points at UACE were given cash prizes of UShs 600,000 each while the best UCE candidates were given full scholarship at the school.
