VACCINATION AGAINST EBOLA BEGINS IN KASESE

Ministry of health on Saturday 15^th began an exercise of vaccinating residents against the Ebola virus that has so far claimed three deaths in kasese.

This follows after of recent Ebola broke out in Kasese district, western Uganda leaving the whole country in fear and even some people losing their lives.

“Ring vaccination against Ebola Virus Disease has started in Kasese District. Contacts to the confirmed Ebola cases who came from DRC and non-vaccinated frontline health and other workers will be vaccinated, announced the ministry revealing that “Vaccines have been provided by WHO and Ministry of Health DRC.”

“Day TWO of Ring Vaccination against Ebola Virus Disease in Kirembo Village, Kasese District,” announced the ministry on Sunday 16.

The ministry also announced that on its behalf, Mr. Richard Kabanda, the Commissioner for Health Promotion, Education and Strategic Communication has launched school health clubs in the Buganda Region.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Health, Commissioner for Health Promotion, Education and Strategic Communication, Mr. Richard Kabanda launched school health clubs in the Buganda Region,” revealed health ministry through its social media platforms.

They said that “Schools serve as a setting for the health sector to be able reach out to the young generation on issues affecting their health, adding that Ministry of Health prioritizes adolescents as a big resource for the nation.”

Early this week, the Ministry of Health announced the Ebola outbreak in Kasese District.

This was after a 5 year old boy who was admitted and isolated at Bwera Hospital Ebola Treatment Unit tested positive and died Tuesday night.

On Monday, the Ministry held a media briefing on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Kigezi Region at Manhattan Hotel, Kabale to sensitize journalists on correct EVD reporting.

The Ministry on Thursday 13^th  updated the public that Uganda has so far registered three confirmed cases of Ebola.

According to the ministry, two of these have since passed on the most recent being the 50 -year-old grandmother of the deceased index Ebola case who traveled from the Democratic Republic of Congo on the 10th June 2019 and tested positive for Ebola but died Wednesday evening at 4:00 pm.

Jane Aceng, the Minister of Health on June 13 revealed that Uganda deported five suspected Ebola patients back to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a bid to cleanse the country of the deadly disease.

The revelation was made at the Kampala Serena Hotel in which Hon. Aceng called for calmness within the country saying the Ministry with a team of experts is on top of the situation and that Uganda has a good track record of fighting Ebola.

‘The teams at the Ministry of Health and partners have had the situation under control together with DRC, we repatriated five people back to DRC,” she confirmed, adding that “So currently in our Ebola Treatment Unit we only have three suspects who are Ugandan and don’t have any contacts with the previous cases.”
