THREE MBARARA REFERRAL HOSPITAL DOCTORS ARRESTED FOR STEALING DRUGS

IN MBARARA—–

Police in Mbarara last night arrested three medical officials from Mbarara Referral Hospital and recovered 16 boxes of government drugs worth 10 million in Katete central Nyamitanga division here Mbarara municipality.

Venasio Byakatonda the CID in charge Katete police post says that police was tipped by a local resident from kitobero cell in Nyamitanga division where boda-boda riders were coming from carrying boxes of drugs.
Byakatonda said that they also arrested the four boda-boda riders and released them after making a statement as an investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Mpata Owagage the Assistant Director health motoring team unit from state house says that the drugs were stolen by doctors from Mbarara referral hospital according to the statements recorded by boda-boda riders noting that about three doctors are already been arrested to help in investigations.

The arrested were identified as one Outa, Matsika a stores officer and Atwine a dispenser whose other names were not revealed by press time.

Owagage adds that the operation is ongoing following the increased theft of government drugs in the government hospitals and health centers.
