Kanungu district chairperson canon Josephine Kasya has defended government on the creation of new administrative units in Kanungu district.
She noted that all the newly created units were initiated by the locals, through the relevant structures up to the national level, where they were approved and passed.
Government through the ministry of local government recently passed and gazetted the creation of Kyeshero Sub County from Kayonza Sub County and Nyamirama town council, all in Kanungu district.
Also set to begin next financial year 2020/2021 are new units of Nyakabungo town council, Rutenga town council and Buhoma town council among others.
She said that these new units are requested by the locals and by passing and granting them, government looks at bringing services closer to the people.
It should be remembered that the secretary to treasury Keith Muhakanizi advised government to stop the opening up of new administrative units citing a challenge gap, but this advice has since not been heeded to.
