Minister Kamuntu Campaigning in Church in Sheema

Top NRM officials including Ministers have been sighted openly violating COVID 19 protective measures by convening public gatherings which were banned by President Museveni and this has left many Ugandans with un answered questions.

On spot is the top frontliner on COVID 19 war and Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng who was recently sighted in Lira defying her own set directives by holding a public rally in name of distributing masks.

As if that is not enough, the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu and NRM Vice Chairperson Eastern Region Mike Mukula are also on spot for holding campaign rallies which were banned by both Government and the Electoral Commission (EC).

Photos circulating on social media taken over the weekend show Minister Prof. Kamuntu who is vying to be re-elected as Sheema County South Member of Parliament during a rally he had reportedly held at a church in Sheema District, which was attended by a huge gathering of people, many of whom were not social distancing.

For Mike Mukula, a video is being circulated while he was sending his political message in church in his home district Soroti.

Mukula already expressed his intentions to rerun for the NRM Vice chairperson Seat for Eastern region.

However, while the priests, sheikhs and pastors languish in idleness and poverty, the politicians are busy using the houses of God as political grounds.

It is on record that most of the people who attend these church rallies do not wear face masks and those who have them don’t wear them as advised by the Ministry of Health.

In March this year, President Museveni announced the immediate closure of worshiping places aiming at creating social distance and to avoid huge gatherings, because President Museveni said this would be one of the ways to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Public figures including politicians and civil society activists all raised voices against the acts.

The presidential hopeful and patron for People Power movement Robert Kyagulanyi alias ‘Bobi Wine’ in a tweet where he posted a video of Capt. Mike Mukula holding campaign in a church yelled for equality.
