Grade one magistrate’s court in Sanga Kiruhura district has ordered members of King of Kings church in Sanga town to pay 5 million in two weeks time to Yasin Sango, a money lender who is claiming the land where the church sits.
The land had previously been given out to Yasin as collateral security by a pastor who is now at large and the church has so far paid shs4 million on the 9 million debt and Yasin maintains that he is ready to pay back their 4 million and he fully owns the land, a provision the church has turned down.
Grade one magistrate Patrick Bamuhiga yesterday, Monday September 14,2020 adjourned the matter until September 28,2020 when the plaintiff is expected to come with the amount and hand it over to the defendant.
Meanwhile, Bishop Silas Tayebwa who is the King of Kings senior pastor of the mother King of Kings Church in Mbarara expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict saying places of worship are still under lockdown due to COVID-19 yet the money is mobilized from Christians.
“But we’ll raise what we can and God will do his part. You cannot buy church like that,” the man of God added.
Christians also accuse Yasin for allegedly being behind the demolition of the church on August 31,2020 though he says it was brought down by wind. Court has halted construction for two weeks until the payment is fulfilled.
