“I know this will temporarily inconvenience construction in Kanungu but it’s needed for a short time. We as security we are concerned about lives being lost in a short time,” RDC Dan Rugaju lamented after the closure.
Rugaju said that the district security committee leadership will now embark on educating the population on good sand mining practices before they are allowed to operate again.
He noted that the suspension won’t take too long adding that on Tuesday they will hold a meeting for security, miners, environment officer to assess those quarry and come up with recommendations to guide the District.
