In Kikuube—
Kikuube district Covid-19 taskforce has resolved to suspend public transport along Lake Albert as part of the measure to curb the spread of the novel corona virus.
The directive follows a 42-day partial lockdown imposed by the government to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
On Sunday President Museveni announced several measures including closure of schools, suspension of religious gatherings and transport between districts, for at least 42 days.
The Kikuube Resident District Commissioner Amlan Tumusiime says the taskforce resolved that all people who have resettled back on the recently closed landing sites be evicted with immediate effect.
The taskforce also agreed that UPDF soldiers beef up police during the enforcement of the Covid-19 guidelines.
Tumusiime says the decision to suspend water transport on Lake Albert follows reports of illegal entry of Congolese refugees into Uganda.
Tumusiime appealed to the general public to take the SOPs seriously.
Peter Banura, the district chairman for Kikuube commended development partners who are supporting the district with personal protective gear.
