“WE SHALL NOT ALLOW IDD AMIN LIKE REGIMES COME BACK TO UGANDA”-PRIME MINISTER RUGUNDA

The prime minister of Uganda; Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda has assured Ugandans that IDDI Amin’s like brutalities will not return to Uganda thus urging them to work hand in hand with the government to ensure that similar types of leadership are not allowed back to Uganda.
Rugunda said this today of 12thAugust while representing President Yoweri Museveni at the 60 year- marriage anniversary of Yowasi Rwamango Makaaru and his wife Joyce Mwangangi at their home in Micereere village in Sheema municipality.
Rugunda;s comments were in response to Can.Makaaru’s revelations that he was subjected to acts of torture by Idd Amini’s government in 1971 at Makindye torture chambers in Kampala and at Makenke military barracks thereafter.
The prime minister asked Makaaru to sit with his children and write a book containing his autobiography and all forms of torture he experienced during the past regimes.
According to Dr.Jackie Makaaru, a couple’s daughter; the relationship between Yowas Makaaru and Joyce Bettyce Mwangangi started when Joyce was 12 years-old while Yowas was 17 years old. They were both in Primary three.
Their relationship continued until they qualified as teachers and officially married on 27th April 1957 at Kabwohe church of Uganda.
In his speech read for him by Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda, president Museveni said it was right decision for Makaaru to thank God for giving him life as well to celebrate a 60 year milestone in their marriage.
The president gave 15 million shillings to the couple which was delivered cash by the prime minister.
The function was preceded by a church service led by retired bishop Dr.George Tibesigwa at the couple’s home.
Other retired bishops;Elisha Kyamugambi and William Magambo also attended the colorful function.
Ministers; Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, Dr.Elioda Tumwesigye and Sheema woman MP;Jacklet Atuhaire Rwabukurukuru blessed the occasion.
