OVER 17000 REFUGEES RELOCATE IN KISORO BORDERLINE OPERATIONS

A total of 17,012 aslum seekers have been removed from the borderline in kisoro district.
This was revealed by RDC kisoro district Hajji Sharfiq Sengoba Sekandi following the operations to remove illegal asylum seekers along the borderline. The operation started on 2nd September 2022 and out of 17,012 asylum seekers, 11,449 have gone back to DRC while 5,563 reported to Nyakabande Holding Centre.
He says that those who went went back to Congo passed through different boarder points like Busanza,Bunagana,Kanombe,Kibaya.
Total population at the holding area and Transit Center is 15,981 i.e. 1,423 at the TC and 14,558 at the Holding Center individuals. This total population involves those who were manually registered and those awaiting registration.
Cumulative number of asylum seekers manually registered from 28th March 2022 is 49,915 individuals of 25,526 Households.
Cumulative number of relocations from Nyakabande TC to Refugee Settlements from Convoy 1 up to Convoy 38 is 18,295 individuals out of 8,841 households
Hajji Sharfiq also reveals that the District Security Committee is sitting today to plan for the 2nd round operation that will comb the borderline putting emphasis on asylum seeker still hiding in houses of host communities.
Hajji Sharfiq also noted that EJVM(Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism) monitoring team completed their monitoring exercise in kisoro district and went back to Goma through Rwanda. They appreciated the professional way Kisoro Security Team handled the refugee operations.
