GRIEF! RUKUNGIRI PRIEST’S WIFE KILLED IN BODA BODA ACCIDENT

Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances under which a wife of priest died in the motorcycle road accident along Katabushera hill in Bungangari Sub- County

Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson identified the deceased Irene Akankwasa 46 years a wife to Rev. Benson Akankwasa of Kitazigurukwa COU, resident of Omukamuri cell Nyamayenje ward southern Division Rukungiri municipality.

The accident occurred yesterday 26/09/2022 at about 1030hrs at Katabushera hill when the motorcycle rider was sloping heading towards Bugangari and the motorcycle developed brake failure.

Maate said that the rider of the motorcycle reg. no. UFE 774 F Bajaj was rushed to unknown health facility for treatment.

Maate told journalists that the deceased was working with compassion International Bugangari.

According to an eye witness, the boda boda cyclist lost control after realizing that he was about to head collide with a car that was climbing Katabushera as they were going in the opposite direction.

Upon realising that the cyclist was no longer in control, Irene jumped off and her head got shattered hence dying on spot as the boda boda cyclist rammed into a trench

Her body was taken to the Rwakabengo health centre mortuary for postmortem.

The scene was visited, and involved motorcycle parked at CPS Rukungiri pending IOV inspection as inquiries are ongoing.
