Authorities at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital say they have made a breakthrough into unearthing a racket accused of sneaking out bodies from the facility.
Over the weekend, the hospital’s communication officer Halson Kagure said this followed the arrest of two people who allegedly deal in sneaking out bodies from the hospital before connecting them to funeral homes for burial arrangements before doing autopsy in the hospital mortuary.
Authorities indicate that the two are agents of funeral homes, targeting people who lose their relatives undergoing treatment at the facility.
According to Kagure ,the suspects admitted having been planted by funeral homes to sneak bodies out of the facility to funeral homes for a commission.
The two prime suspects have been handed to Mbarara central police station with hope that more criminals will be apprehended.
Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira identified the duo as Robert Mucunguzi attached to Urban Funeral services and Andrew Mugisha attached to Miles funeral services.
Kasasira noted that the two suspects could be part of a bigger racket that has been behind such acts.He said they will be produced before court on charges of trespass.
