By Nelson Twinamatsiko
In Bushenyi–
Businesses in Nyabubare trading centre in Igara west Bushenyi
district were yesterday October 20,2017 paralyzed as residents blocked the road and tore their MP Raphael Magyezi’s posts protesting poor
state of roads in their area.
The residents decided to block the road using banana suckers and tree
branches an act that paralyzed traffic for several hours.
They were particularly concerned about the appalling state of
Bitereko-Kizinda road, which they claim has been neglected by their area Member of Parliament; Raphael Magyezi and district leadership for a very long time.
The protestors chanted songs against the leadership of the area Memebr
of parliament and district chairperson; Jafali Basajjabalaba.
The residents argue that the poor state of the road hampers development and has affected their livelihood.
Rwamuganga Karorl Charles, the Nyabubare Sub county chairman said the residents decided to block the road because the district leadership has failed to respond to their pleas to rehabilitate the road.
He appealed to the district leadership to fix the road immediately to
avoid any further protests.
Godfrey Mwine; the head teacher Nyabubare secondary school says he backs the residents’ decision because the state of the road has
affected the UCE exams that are being done.
Other residents accuse the district and central government of
absconding from their role of delivering better services to the people of
Nyabubare Sub County, Kakanju and Kyabugimbi County in general.
