Ankole western University (AWU) located in Sheema municipality Sheema district will hold a marathon on 27th September 2025 aimed at raising 100M to buy 200 solar lights.
According to the vice chancellor of the university Dr. Adrew Ainomugisha the marathon will be conducted in Sheema municipality and targets schools ,Banks Sacco’s, churches ,NGOs,bodabodas and real estate staff.
He added that this is part of Ankole Western University week aimed at making awareness about services and products that the University provides to the public.
He noted that still as part of the University week the University will hold a Barraza aimed at sensitizing secondary school students on dangers of drug abuse and alcoholism.
Dr. Anomugisga invited the secondary school student leader, teachers in-charge of discipline among others.
The key speakers of the above event will be RTD assistant Inspector general of police Asan Kasingye and Dr. Justus Murokole.The function will be held at senevin hotel in Kabwohe town.
The vice chancellor also said that the university will host emeritus Archbishop of the church of Uganda and evangelist Henry Luke Oromb from 21st to 28th September 2025.
Ankole Western University is owned by West Ankole diocese that covers the districts of Sheema, Bushenyi, Buhwenju, Mitooma and Rubirizi.
Dr. Ainomugisha told www.mknewslink.com that the university has increased the enrollment from 400 to close 5000 in the last two years.
He added that the science block which is approximately 8 billion is almost complete and issues of space will be sorted .
