Political intrigue has struck in the Mbarara Woman MP race where Rival candidate Maurishia Hope has officially petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) to recall the nomination of Loydah Twinomujuni Kyarikunda, claiming she submitted a forged academic documents — a claim allegedly confirmed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE)
According to a petition filed by Kyamanywa & Co. Advocates on behalf of Hope Maurishia, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has confirmed that a document (equivalent of UACE certificate) presented by Kyarikunda Loydah is fake. The letter, dated 6 November 2025 and signed by NCHE Executive Director Prof. Mary Okwakol, dismissed the document attributed to NCHE as a forgery.
“Please note that the letter dated 12th October 2021 you submitted attributing it to the National Council for Higher Education is a forgery. Tendering a false or forged document is a crime under Ugandan law,” Prof. Okwakol stated.
The petitioners argue that Kyarikunda’s nomination contravenes Article 80(1)(c) of the Constitution, Section 4(1)(c) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, and other regulations requiring candidates to possess a valid Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
“Having confirmed that Mrs. Twinomujuni Kyarikunda Loydah does not possess a valid certificate from the National Council for Higher Education, the Commission should recall and nullify her nomination,” the petition reads.
The allegations have shaken political circles, but the story gets even juicier — Kyarikunda is the wife of Eng. John Vianney Twinomujuni, a commissioner at the Ministry of Water and Environment whose recent contract extension triggered public uproar and court showdown. Insider whispers suggest some party heavyweights are already questioning whether Kyarikunda’s political ambitions are tied to her husband’s influence.
Supporters of both candidates are reportedly on edge, monitoring the EC for updates, while social media is already exploding with memes and hot takes on the “Fake Certificate Saga.”
Many are asking: Will the EC take decisive action, or will political influence shield Kyarikunda?
For now, the EC remains tight-lipped, leaving Mbarara buzzing with whispers, speculation, and political intrigue.
