In Mbarara—
The Inspectorate of Government (IG) office in Mbarara has arrested Ntare School head teacher Saul Rwampororo, his predecessor Jimmy Turyagyenda and former school typist Peace Kebirungi over the alleged loss of 110.8 shillings.
The arrests follow investigations into allegations that Kebirungi irregularly received a government salary for nearly nine years after allegedly using a forged university admission letter to obtain study leave with pay before abandoning her duties.
According to Sarah Magola, the head of the Inspectorate of Government office in the South Western region, Kebirungi allegedly presented a false university admission letter in October 2015, which she used to secure study leave with pay but subsequently absconded from duty.
Magola said the misconduct was allegedly concealed by Turyagyenda before his retirement from public service, and later continued by Rwampororo.
She said Kebirungi continued to receive a government salary irregularly from September 2015 to August 2024 despite having abandoned her duties.
In 2023, Kebirungi reportedly applied for early retirement from public service. Magola said Rwampororo forwarded her application despite her alleged ineligibility for retirement because she had absconded from duty.
By February 2026, Kebirungi had allegedly received a total of UGX 110.8 million in irregular salary payments, Magola said.
The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala to answer charges related to the alleged financial loss and abuse of office.
