A section of people opposed to lifting of age limit in Rubabo county Rukungiri district turned rowdy and almost forced their Member of Parliament Paula Turyahikayo to abandon a consultative meeting she had organized at Kayanga primary school in kisiizi parish.
The fracas started when the MP said that those opposed to the proposal willnever be voted into positions of leadership because of their bad deeds.
Some accused Paula Turyahikayo for allegedly not having spoken anything on the floor of Parliament which allegation she rubbished off saying the development registered in her constituency wouldn’t be in place if she remained quiet in Parliament.
The embarrassment she endured forced people more especially women in Kafunzo and Kirimbi parishes where she was scheduled to hold other consultative meetings to cut branches of trees and demonstrated against those wearing red ribbons and at the same time show their loyalty to her despite the kind of embarrassment she was subjected too.
Although a few individuals opposed to the proposal tried to express their negative views over the matter majority of the people voted in support of the lifting of age limit from the constitution.
Later on ProtazioTumukunde the LC 11 Chairman for Kafunzo parish in Nyakishenyi Sub County told journalists that the people who demonstrated for allegedly against their actions were bribed by the MP which she denied saying during all the consultative meetings held all over the constituency she would only facilitate people after the meeting.
Twonomujuni Wednesday district Councillor for Nyakishenyi Sub County says red colour is a sign of blood and wearing red ribbons are trying to incite the public to kill one another adding that this is the reason why people demonstrated against them
