KABALE MAYOR TO CLOSE ALL WASHING BAYS
BY VANANSIO KAKOGOSO
IN KABALE—
Some residents and leaders in Kabale Municipality are demanding for
immediate closure of mushrooming washing bays that do not have
necessary facilities.
The locals claim that washing bays do not have trenches to drain water
and toilets to be used by employees and their customers, who end up
littering waste into their water sources.
The female Councilor Representing Karubanda ward in southern division
Susan Abby Akatukunda says that some washing bays in Kazigizigi
Karubanda ward in southern division have come up without any facility.
She says that all the staff defecate in surrounding bushes and the
waste is drained the surrounding water sources which she says that has
put lives of people at risk of acquiring sanitary diseases.
John Abigaba from Kigongi in Kabale municipality says that it’s
unfortunate for leades to keep a deaf ear on washing bays that are
dangerous to human being. He says that municipal authorities should
swing in to rescue the situation.
The Kabale Municipality mayor Emanuel Sentaro Byamugisha says that
they have instructed the division authorities to gazette their planned
washing bays for proper planning. He adds that any illegal washing bay
will be immediately closed
