Sheema district security has been accused of meddling in the ongoing campaigns for the Sheema municipality parliamentary seat.
The accusation was raised by opposition politicians who said the district security team that is supposed to be non-partisan is being used by NRM party officials in the district to persecute them as they canvas support for FDC party flag bearer contesting for area parliamentary seat.
Virginia Plan Mugyenyi (FDC) is facing Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye (NRM) and four other independents that include Misharch Katusiime the Vice Chancellor Ankole Western University, Raymond Kamugisha, Ambrose Mwesigye, and Jonas Tumwine.
Mwijukye Francis the FDC coordinator for Sheema municipality parliamentary campaigns said the manner in which security especially the police is behaving during this campaign period is unprofessional and vowed to petition the Inspector General of Police to prevail over them and reverse the trend.
He also raised a red flag against police officers for accepting to travel in private vehicle driven by NRM supporter who was even donning party Yellow party t-shirt.
However, the RDC Willy Turyamubona said the presence of security at the campaign venue was to keep peace and order after NRM and FDC flag bearers resolved to carry out their campaigns at Kibutamo trading centre in Rushozi parish.
Efforts to contact the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson for a comment were futile
