AMB. KATUNGWE PENS OPINION ON BUSHENYI MUNICIPALITY LOSING USIMAID PROJECT DUE TO LEADERS FIGHTS FOR DISTRICT SERVICE COMMISSION

IN BRUSSELS—-
Fellow Leaders and Stakeholders of Bushenyi District,
I am concerned by the continued divisions that emerge over relatively simple issues,
especially during and after elections. Recently, disagreements over appointments to the
District Public Service Commission have once again created unnecessary tension, with
some matters reportedly ending up in court. We must ask ourselves: what is our
problem?
In a democratic society, not all of us can be Chairpersons, CEC members, or office
holders at the same time. Leadership positions are held by individuals for a given term,
after which others may also have an opportunity to serve. Those who are unsuccessful
should graciously accept the outcome and prepare to try again after the five-year
electoral cycle.
Our district has previously suffered setbacks because of internal divisions. We risked
losing major development opportunities such as the World Bank market project, and we
may now jeopardize opportunities under the Uganda Cities and Municipalities
Infrastructure Development Programme if we fail to respect the mandate of leaders
elected and appointed through lawful processes.
I therefore appeal to those who have taken these matters to court to consider
withdrawing the cases unconditionally in the greater interest of Bushenyi District. Let us
place development, service delivery, and the welfare of our people above personal
interests.
I also call upon all stakeholders, especially former and current Members of Parliament, former
Ministers, and those holding senior positions in government, to support and guide the
new leadership so that together we can move Bushenyi District forward.
Let us unite behind a common vision of peace, development, and prosperity for all.
